Abstract. The role of common European Union economic policy, based on the implemen- tation of its particular policies, is to increase its competitiveness within the global economy environment. Therefore, the aim and the interests of the EU as an entity of the global economy are to increase the competitiveness of the EU members. It can be done through regional development enhancement of EU regions, regional discrepan- cies elimination as the current EU vision appears to be as the Union of regions. Thus the paper deals with the analysis of Slovak economy competitiveness using the data from the Global Competitiveness Index, the analysis is followed by the discussion of regional development policies and the role of innovation in regional development. |
