Abstract. The aim of the article is to present and analyze in detail the requirements imposed on the entrepreneurs through the environmental management norm ISO 14001. Moreover, the article shows the disadvantages and advantages for companies to introduce this system of environmental management. The constant growth of the number of certified organisations confirms the need for entrepreneurs to act in accordance to the rules of sustainable development. The pure introduction of the system nevertheless doesnt mean necessarily its efficiency.
